Tony Mowbray believes Harvey Elliott has produced the numbers to back up his promise.

It comes after the Liverpool loanee scored his sixth goal of an increasingly productive loan spell to add to his 11 assists. Only Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia has managed more, while his 17 goal involvements have come in 37 appearances.

Elliott bagged the winner when his left footed shot found a way beyond David Marshall, having claimed an assist in the previous game against Cardiff City.

It was a first goal since February for Elliott who started for a fourth consecutive match, having been on the bench for four of the previous five, with Mowbray wary of the teenager’s workload in his first full season.

He has featured in every Rovers match since signing on a season-long loan from Liverpool and is expected to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season plans upon his return to Anfield.

And he will do so with plenty of experience to add to his talent, according to Mowbray.

He said: “Harvey is a wonderful talent. I don’t want to keep eulogising about him, because the statistics and his quality on the ball stand out for all to see.

“If anything, we can’t get the ball to him enough, but when we do, in and around the box, he can produce quality like he showed.

“I did tell him before the game that he has to keep his goal tally ticking along, although he seemingly gets an assist every game, but we’re delighted for him because he needs to keep it ticking along for his own confidence and belief, not that he’s short on that, because he’s a wonderful talent.

“I’m delighted for him and you could see his own delight in his celebration.”

Rovers now have four games of their season remaining, starting with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

Victory over Derby on Friday night was a first in eight games and only a second in 16 Championship fixtures, with Mowbray now hoping that win, which moved them to 50 points, will see them finish the season with a positive run of results.

“I just want to finish the season well and go to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, a team who will be fighting for their lives and show them how good we are and prove that their fight to get out of the bottom, won’t overcome the bravery of our playing style,” he told the club website.

“We now have a couple of days to work before travelling to Hillsborough. Let’s try and finish the season as strong as we can and win the games, if we can.”
