Scans have revealed a broken metatarsal that will see Joe Rankin-Costello miss the rest of the season.
Rankin-Costello faces a second injury absence of the season that will keep him out until the middle of pre-season.
The 21-year-old sustained the injury in the Good Friday defeat at Wycombe Wanderers when coming into contact with the advertising boards, and striker Uche Ikpeazu landing awkwardly on his ankle.
That has left the Academy graduate with a broken metatarsal, having previously missed three months of the season with a hamstring injury between November and February.
He has still managed to clock up 14 appearances, all starts, having edged ahead of Ryan Nyambe in the right back stakes for the March fixtures.
But Tony Mowbray revealed: “Rankin-Costello we won’t see again this season.
“He’s broken his metatarsal.
“It’s frustrating for us all, but particularly for Joe.
“It wasn’t him that stood on his own foot, we have to accept that he’s had some real bad luck with injuries, strains, that sort of stuff.
“This one isn’t a strain, it’s a fracture for his fifth metatarsal.
"He won't be ready until midway through pre-season.”
Mowbray has already confirmed that Daniel Ayala is unlikely to play again this season having been out since December, while Scott Wharton and Bradley Dack are other long-term absentees.
