Jordan Rhodes has been back among the goals at Sheffield Wednesday – and believes his relationship with new boss Darren Moore, dating back to their days together at Ewood Park, has been the catalyst.

Moore had a short spell on the coaching staff at Ewood, appointed by Michael Appleton in early 2013, when Rhodes was firing home the goals in the blue and white of Rovers.

Now reunited at Sheffield Wednesday, where Moore was appointed after leaving Doncaster Rovers, Rhodes has scored three goals in his last three matches, including the weekend win over Barnsley.

Rhodes, now 31, has doubled his season’s tally in that run, and has only scored 29 league goals since leaving Rovers in February 2016. But he feels the link-up with Moore is helping to bring out the best in him.

“Me and the manager know each other from our time at Blackburn, and he knows what qualities I bring - my strengths and my weaknesses - and he’s been really positive,” he told the Sheffield Star.

“All of his messages have been positive, from top to bottom, and we’re all just trying out best for each other, for the manager, for the staff, and for each other.”

Rhodes is out of contract in the summer and will likely seek a fresh challenge as despite their win at Barnsley, Wednesday are still six points from safety.

They do still have nine matches to play, and Rhodes isn’t giving up hope, and has previously quashed any talk over his future.

He moved to Hillsborough in January 2017 on loan, a move that was made permanent that summer, before spending the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Norwich City.

He added: “Everybody in there is fighting the best that they can for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and if we knew that we weren’t going to get anything out of it then we’d be the first to say.

“But we’ll keep going right to the very end, and you can’t really say fairer than that.

“I’m just enjoying every minute of it. I feel like I’m playing with a smile on my face, and I’m really enjoying it.”
