Rovers player ratings from the 1-1 draw with Norwich City.

Thomas Kaminski 8

One huge save to deny Buendia in injury time, having also denied the midfielder in the first half and Pukki in the second. The first half save to tip Buendia's shot was a fine reaction. Showed his Belgium international credentials with another fine display.

Joe Rankin-Costello 7

Was very brave in the first half, not least his aerial challenge with Giannoulis, and also in his approach to continually push forward. One excellent cross cut out by Hanley, but then didn’t make the most of others.

Darragh Lenihan 8

An excellent block late on to deny Pukki, an opoonent that has caused him problems in the past, summed an impressive display. A willingness to put his body on the line summed up his defensive work, and was a vocal presence throughout. Fewer wasteful balls out from the back.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis 8

This was a sixth successive start for the Manchester City loanee and he continues to look assured alongside Lenihan. Won five headers, blocked two shots and made four clearances in an excellent defensive display.

Barry Douglas 7

Was one of those who needed to take more care with his final pass, or cross, several overhit deliveries failing to find a team-mate. Defensively though he had measure of both Cantwell and Buendia who continued to switch flanks.

Corry Evans 7

His best role is undoubtedly the one he played here, infront of the back four and looking to make interceptions, challenges and plays forward. That’s what he did here, and in the first half in particular, he broke up the play really well. Harshly penalised by the referee on at least two occasions. Ran out of legs as the second half went on.

Lewis Holtby 7

A constant voice on the pitch, dictating proceedings with his voice and ball at his feet. Still work to do to get up to speed with his fitness, but Rovers do seem a more balanced side with him in it.

Joe Rothwell 7

Looked to really enjoy himself, given licence to carry the ball, and had more consistency to his play across the 90 minutes. Got Rovers up and across the pitch at speed, but still needing more creativity around the edge of the box to add more goals and assists.

Ben Brereton 6

One excellent break in the first half saw him fail to pick out Holtby, but was very much a handful for Giannoulis. Unfortunately his threat dipped in the second half and his substitution was the right call. Still need to see more of a goal threat when playing as part of a front three.

Tyrhys Dolan 6

Found it tough out on the left against an excellent defender in Aarons who often had cover as well. Was denied tap-ins due to good defending from Aarons in the second half and Hanley in the first.

John Buckley 7

Picked up some intelligent positions dropping off from his advanced positions which made him difficult to pick. Not his natural position, but his attacking instinct saw him have two shots at goal inside the opening five minutes.

Subs

Sam Gallagher (for Brereton, 64) 7

Headed home the equaliser and five of his six goals this season have now come off the bench. Had a chance to win it after that, only to see him lift the ball over Krul, but cleared by the covering defender.

Harvey Elliott (for Buckley, 64) 7

Took over the false nine duties. His free kick was headed home by Gallagher, and then set up the same player for a late chance.

Stewart Downing (for Evans, 70)

A more creative player than Evans in that position. Linked with Rothwell for a late shot that was fired wide.

Elliott Bennett (for Rankin-Costello, 70) 6

Was cheering the side on from the sidelines, and then from the pitch, when sent on. Was a surprise choice over Nyambe, but it was his run forward, and cross, that won the free kick from which Rovers scored.

Bradley Johnson (for Holtby, 85) 6

Another ex-Norwich City player sent on late in the game as Holtby tired.

Not used: Aynsley Pears, Ryan Nyambe, Amari’i Bell, Jarrad Branthwaite
