As Norwich City aim for a 10th successive Championship victory Tony Mowbray accepts there is ‘no secret formula’ on how to beat the Canaries.

Mowbray has been impressed by the runaway leaders who have won each of their last nine fixtures to move 10 points clear at the top and on the verge of an instant return to the top flight.

Norwich clinched their last promotion to the Premier League with victory over Rovers in April 2019, and while the prize isn’t quite so close this time around, it seems something of a certainty for Daniel Farke’s side.

Mowbray’s analysis of today’s hosts has showed him they have answers to most problems posted by teams during their winning run, but takes heart from the Ewood meeting where Rovers ran the Canaries close.

And while Mowbray's men travel to Carrow Road with just five points from their last 11 matches, he feels performances have warranted more.

“We will go and do what we do, compete, give them a good game I’m sure,” the manager said.

“We’ll go and be mindful of their strengths, if you’re looking for weaknesses there aren’t many in their team, but you’re looking to expose them, and try and put your strengths against their weaknesses as we do every game, and see how we go.

“There’s no secret formula as to how you go and beat Norwich, otherwise every team would have found that and try and do that. You’re playing against good footballers who make the right decisions and whatever you do, they’re a coached team that if you play one up front, they know what they’re doing.

“If you play two up front, they have a different system, if you play three up top they play two deep in midfield, they’re a well-coached team.  They know how to get the ball up the pitch to the striker.

“Whatever we do, they’ll have an answer in how they play and we have to try and nullify their strengths, take them out of their rhythm and see how we get on.”

Norwich won the Championship in 2018/19 after a mid-table finish the previous season, Farke’s first in charge of the club. He was given time to mould a side that won the division the following year, and despite relegation from the top flight last term, the majority of that squad have stayed together to launch an instant assault on the Championship.

“It’s very impressive, a team who are really interesting when you look at them, a technical team, a ball retention team, a team that play with the ball and dominate every game they play,” Mowbray added.

“They have a striker who scores goals every week, they’ve got (Emi) Buendia, probably the most creative player in the division with the most assists and chances created, they have full backs who play really high, they’re a team who we’re striving to, as we push on, trying to get to.

“I’ve talked about getting to a resemblance of having that consistency where you keep doing what you do, keep moving the ball, getting the ball into areas. Practically all of those players would have played in the Premier League last season, it’s a very good team and their results are suggesting that.”

Meanwhile, Farke has eyes on his side finishing the job as they go in search of a 10th successive victory this afternoon.

Farke has allowed himself to accept that a play-off place is now secured, but won’t let anyone get carried away by their run of form, or the position they have established at the top.

He said: “We know we are on a good path. With 82 points we know we don’t need to worry about a position in the play-offs anymore. We will definitely finish in the top six.

“We are on a good path, but it is up to us to keep going and to not get carried away. Yes, having 82 points at this stage of the season is outstanding, but we are not naive. We know we are on the right path but you never know during this pandemic what might happen.

“You have to be aware. Our own topic is that we want to keep going on Saturday. It’s not easy to recover quickly and it will be a difficult task against Blackburn. We want to keep going.”
