Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has warned his side against the counter-attacking threat of Bristol City.

City have won all three of their away games under their new manager Nigel Pearson, scoring three goals in the process, including the weekend victory at Birmingham City.

Former Rovers loanee Kasey Palmer has played a big role in that, back in the Robins side having been loaned out in the first half of the season to Swansea City.

Palmer, who scored three times in a half season loan at Rovers in 2018, has netted twice in four starts under Pearson and become a key man in the side.

Mowbray said: “They have had some decent results, away from home particularly, they won 3-0 at the weekend at Birmingham.

“They also won 3-1 at Swansea which is an amazing result, they were 3-0 up at half time against Middlesbrough, so they’re dangerous on the road.

“They’re very solid behind the ball, they’re very good on transition, like an old-fashioned counter-attacking team. Kasey Palmer is playing a big part of that, picking the ball up on transition and driving forward with it, sliding people in.

“It’s a dangerous game, one where we’ll probably have more of the ball, but we have to be very mindful of how quickly they can break into the spaces and how dangerous they are.

“They have scored three goals away from home in each of those games and didn’t have as much possession as the other team, but won.”

Meanwhile, Pearson says has a lot of respect for Tony Mowbray and feels Rovers will present his Bristol City side with a ‘difficult obstacle’ tonight.

However, Pearson says his focus will be on how his side perform at Ewood Park. But he anticipating a tough test against Mowbray’s Rovers.

“He is a man I like, he has a lot of integrity and his side will present quite a difficult obstacle for us,” he said.

“It will be another tough test, I never underestimate any side and on their day they are a very capable side.

“They’re in need of points so we’ll be ready for a tough battle but again it’s about looking at ourselves and if we put in a performance like we did at the weekend it will give us a good chance of winning.

“We’ve got to be able to deal with the physical side of the game and it’s also important we build on the quality moments we’ve had.”
