Former Rovers manager Paul Lambert has parted company with League One side Ipswich Town by mutual consent.

The Scot has been in charge at Portman Road since October 2018 but won just 37 of his 113 games and he leaves the club sitting eighth in League One.

However, they have won their previous two matches, including a victory over Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, to stretch their unbeaten run to four matches. Assistant manager Stuart Taylor has also left the club.

Owner Marcus Evans told the club website: “I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to Paul and Stuart for their services to Ipswich Town over the last two and half years.

"I have enjoyed a healthy working relationship with Paul in our time together and he has brought a lot of positive aspects to the club.

“It has however become clear after holding discussions over the last few days that there are significant differences of opinion as to the order of immediate priorities and we agreed it was best for us to part company. I would like to wish both Paul and Stuart the best in the future.”

Lambert’s dismissal follows reports that the League One club are on the verge of being taken over and that former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook would be installed as manager.

Ipswich was Lambert’s third job since leaving Rovers in 2016. He was appointed at Ewood Park in November 2015 but left after just 33 matches in charge, of which he won 12.

The former Aston Villa and Norwich City manager then went on to take charge of Wolves and Stoke City before joining Ipswich.
