How the Rovers players rated in the 1-1 draw with Coventry City

Thomas Kaminski 6

Almost caught out by an early McCallum cross, and it was from a deep ball to his far post that caused enough indecision to allow James to equalise.

Ryan Nyambe 7

Excellent assist for Brereton’s opener and pushed McCallum back well at times, a good battle down that flank, and was the one of the few who showed moments of urgency. An excellent piece of covering late on to deny Gyokeres.

Darragh Lenihan 7

A timely return to the side and demonstrated that by winning 10 headers to help repel the Coventry threat. Made an excellent block to deny Walker when covering for his defensive partner.

Jarrad Branthwaite 6

Got the nod over Harwood-Bellis, but did look troubled by the physicality of the Coventry defence. His ability to cover the ground quickly was a key asset though, twice stopping Biamou breaking away, but his touch on the ball is beginning to evade him.

Barry Douglas 7

Had more touches (117) than any player on the pitch and seems to have developed a good understanding with Brereton. Went close to his first Rovers goal from a free kick which hit the post, but otherwise, his delivery from dead balls was mixed.

Corry Evans 6

Sat infront of the back four and distributed the ball around without little fuss after an early switch with Travis having managed back-to-back starts for just the second time this season.

Lewis Travis 6

Looked more himself when swapping roles with Evans, one excellent driving run forward showing his qualities. Couldn’t help wrestle the momentum back Rovers’ way early in the second half before being replaced.

Joe Rothwell 7

When Rovers were good, it owed much to the play of Rothwell, his driving runs a real point of different going forward. An excellent pass to free Nyambe for the opener, but lost his man for the Coventry equaliser.

Harvey Elliott 6

Came into the game late in the first half, twice unable to make the most of breaking clear of the Coventry defence. One throughball created a chance for Armstrong, albeit played with a bit too much pace, but after a bright end to the first half, struggled more in the second.

Ben Brereton 7

Thumped home his fifth goal of the season, and second in as many games, after winning a deserved recall to the side. Carried the ball forward well for Rovers in both halves and looks the most natural of any player who has started wide left.

Adam Armstrong 6

Coventry sat deep, denied the space in behind, and bar some good link-up play with Elliott twice in the first half, the second was more of a struggle. His best chance was late in the first half, denied by the ‘keeper, but couldn’t get in the game after the break, touching the ball just 28 times.

Subs

Tom Trybull (for Travis, 62) 6

Took time to get into the game on what was a first appearance in a month, dispossessed three times, but his first thought is to play forward which was a welcome addition.

Bradley Dack (For Evans, 75) 5

Was back on the bench, and introduced as Rovers looked to push for a late winner, managed  just 17 touches of the ball .

Tyrhys Dolan (for Rothwell, 88) 5

His introduction too late to make any real impact off the bench.
