Rovers Under-23s travel to Tottenham Hotspur tonight with a heavily depleted squad.

Luke Brennan is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, while first-team call-ups could see Billy Barr without full back Dan Pike and top scorer Connor McBride.

McBride scored twice in last week’s 4-1 win over West Ham United to take his tally to 10 in 13 matches, while right back Pike has been in impressive form for the Under-23s this season.

Rovers are second in the Premier League 2 table, three points off top spot, and travel to face fourth-placed Spurs this afternoon.

Spurs were winners at Leyland earlier in the season, and Barr is anticipating a tough test.

He said: “I’m guessing the pitch will be better than what we’ve played on (at home) and we have to go and do what we do.

“We’ll go to London, they beat us on our patch, so there’s that, but I want us to go there and give a good account of ourselves.”

Joe Rankin-Costello is set to start for a second successive match as part of his injury comeback, having played 45 minutes in the win over West Ham.

But several of the Under-18s group, who have won four straight matches including a win over Burnley last time out, could also benefit from a shortage of numbers within the Under-23s squad.

“We’ve had Alex Baker, Harrison Wood, Charlie Weston, if we lose players to the first-team as I’ve alluded to then we’ll need to fill our bench, or starting spots,” Barr added.

Barr added: “Everyone has a chance at the moment, I feel we’re in a really good place as a group at the moment and I just we can continue that.”
