Jack Vale is one Rovers youngster who could be primed for a loan move on deadline day.

The striker returned to action after injury for the Under-23s in their draw at Manchester City, only his second appearance of the season.

The 19-year-old was loaned to Barrow in March, only for lockdown to strike before he had chance to make his debut for the Bluebirds.

The Wales youth international had interested AFC Wimbledon last January, only for that move not to materialise, though a move on deadline day could be fixed up this time around.

Manager Tony Mowbray said: “I think with Jack Vale, the preference for me is that he goes on loan in the next few days and goes to play some League Two or League One football,"

"I see his pathway, I wouldn't say it's closed but I would say it's a difficult pathway for such a young player at this moment.

"My preference would be that he tries to go and get some game time but we shall see what the next day or two brings on that.

"It's something we will have a conversation or two about and we shall see."

Striker Vale, who made his first-team bow at the end of last season, has endured a frustrating time with injury since and broke down in his one Under-23s appearance against Arsenal having not featured at all in pre-season.

“It was brilliant to have Jack back out there, and he’s been really good in training as well,” said Under-23s boss Billy Barr.

“He’s maturing, but the most pleasing thing for me was the fact there was no petulance from him.

“He’s run around, he’s listened to the game plan and has created opportunities for himself and others in what was his first full 90 minutes of the season.”
