Rovers are weighing up their options heading into the final days of the transfer window – but aren’t currently pursuing a move for Everton winger Anthony Gordon.

The club have already added one Everton youngster to their ranks this month, Jarrad Branthwaite arriving on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 18-year-old helped address Rovers’ defensive issues having started the last two Championship matches and looks set to keep his place for the foreseeable future alongside Darragh Lenihan.

With Daniel Ayala still sidelined, and Derrick Williams and Scott Wharton out for the season, Rovers could yet look to add further to their defensive options.

However, it is understood there are other options being explored, but no guarantees that there will be any more new faces through the door before Monday’s deadline.

Rovers have one loan spot left as a fifth signing would take them to the maximum allowed in a matchday squad, adding to Barry Douglas (Leeds United), Tom Trybull (Norwich City) and Harvey Elliott (Liverpool), as well as Branthwaite.

Rovers were knocked back in their bid for Crewe Alexandra left back Harry Pickering earlier in the window, the 22-year-old currently sidelined by injury, though reported interest from Sheffield Wednesday isn't understood to have got off the ground.

Toffees teenager Gordon has caught the eye in games against Rovers Under-23s in recent seasons and he has made the step-up to the Everton first-team within the last 12 months.

The 19-year-old has made 14 Premier League appearances for the club, but just three this season, his seven games so far largely made up of minutes in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

He played 55 minutes of the Boxing Day win at Sheffield United and has been an unused substitute for the last three games, with reports suggest Rovers and Preston North End could offer him minutes as part of a loan deal.

However, that isn't something Rovers are currently pursuing, despite allowing Harry Chapman to leave on loan as he joined Shrewsbury Town.

That still leaves Rovers with Adam Armstrong, Ben Brereton, Sam Gallagher, Elliott, Tyrhys Dolan and the returning Bradley Dack as forward options.

Rovers were credited with interest in Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen, however, there was no substance to those links in the Norwegian international who has since joined QPR on loan.

The deadline for transfer deals ends at 11pm on Monday, February 1.
