Joe Hilton is set to join Ross County on loan for the remainder of the season.

Tony Mowbray revealed there had been interest in Hilton on the back of his seven-day emergency loan spell at Fleetwood Town.

And reports in Scotland say Ross County are leading the race for his signature where he will compete with Ross Laidlaw for the No. 1 spot at the Global Energy Stadium.

Hilton was loaned to the Cod Army just hours before their Papa John’s Trophy game with Hull City earlier this month. That was a senior debut for the 21-year-old who has been with Rovers since his move from Everton in 2019.

After the 3-2 defeat at Hull City, Hilton also took the gloves for the weekend’s home defeat to Portsmouth and last night’s 3-1 reverse at MK Dons.

Fleetwood moved for Hilton on loan with goalkeepers Joel Coleman and Alex Cairns unavailable through injury and self-isolation respectively, having also opted against extended the contract of former Rovers stopper Jayson Leutwiler.

Hilton is expected to sign a loan deal for the remainder of the season at County who are 10th in the Scottish Premiership table.

While he is yet to make a senior appearance for Rovers since his move from Everton in 2019 and didn’t feature in pre-season because of injury, Hilton was a regular for the Under-23s last season.
