AndyFisher has seen his performance at MK Dons rewarded with a new long-term deal.

Fisher has established himself as No.1 at the League One since his deadline day departure from Ewood Park, making 16 appearances.

The 22-year-old started Rovers’ Carabao Cup win over Doncaster, his first senior appearance for three years, and spent time on loan at MK Dons in the second half of last season, only for that to be cut short because of coronavirus.

Fisher was allowed to leave Rovers permanently after a summer of change in the goalkeeping department which saw Thomas Kaminski, Aynsley Pears and Antonis Stergiakis all arrive on permanent deals.

Christian Walton saw his loan spell expire, while Jayson Leutwiler left at the end of his contract, which left Fisher as last man standing for a period, a regular in the pre-season fixtures and then against Doncaster in the opening game of the season.

With Kaminski established as No.1, and Pears as his back-up option, Fisher saw his long association with Rovers end on deadline day in October, and the ‘keeper is delighted to have penned a long-term deal.

He told his club’s website: “I’m delighted to sign this new contract.

“I came here to kick-start my career and I couldn’t ask for a better coaching staff and team of players to do that with.

“The way we play suits me perfectly. I like the pressure and responsibility that is put on me in this team and I feel like it brings the best out of me.”

MK Dons jumped at the chance to sign Fisher permanently and have been delighted with his performance.

Goalkeeper Coach Dean Thornton said: “Fish is a top, top goalkeeper for this level and I think he certainly has room to grow even further.

“He took a big pay cut to come here from Blackburn Rovers and be a part of our team. He’s rewarded us with his performances and now it was our turn to reward him.

“He’s been fantastic within the goalkeeper union as well as for the whole team. His performances this season have shown us what he’s all about, particularly against Fleetwood Town, where he kept us in the game.

“He is here for the long haul and will be key to us moving forward.”
