Sam Gallagher hasn’t trained since sustaining a back injury in the draw with Stoke City.

The attacker was replaced just 15 minutes after coming on at the break in the 1-1 draw last weekend following a collision with the advertising boards when defending a set play.

Gallagher has made 10 starts and as many substitute appearances this season, and was in the starting line-up for the last away match at Birmingham City where Rovers won 2-0, but is doubtful to feature at the Riverside.

Elliott Bennett is the closest of the returning players to featuring in the matchday squad, with the captain having been out since October with ankle ligament damage.

While he could feature in the matchday squad of 2020 at the Riverside, he is likely to play for the Under-23s on Monday when they return to action at Manchester City in a bid to boost his fitness.

“Sam Gallagher hasn’t trained as yet, he might train tomorrow but we’ll have to wait and see,” Mowbray said.

“Corry Evans is training but not ready to play because he’s been out too long.

“Elliott is training, Joe (Rankin-Costello) isn’t, they both been out a long time and need some games.

“The Under-23s games start next week so it’s good to see them back training but it’s been wet, a lot of rain, so it’s not been ideal conditions for training at the moment, nevermind playing.

“Elliott is back, Corry is joining in bits with the team, but they need some football somewhere down the line.”

Left back Amari’i Bell wasn’t in the squad for the draw with Stoke City, but will travel with the squad to Middlesbrough.

“He was out injured but has trained for the last day or two so will be back in contention,” Mowbray added.

Elsewhere, the manager said there was no fresh update in Rovers’ search for another loan signing with nine days to go before the window closes.
