Rovers and Swansea will wait until after this weekend before deciding upon the rescheduled date for their Championship fixture.

Tuesday’s game at Ewood Park was postponed eight hours ahead of kick-off because of a waterlogged pitch, Rovers’ first postponement of the season.

The two sides have fallen a game behind some in the division, though sides who have been affected by postponements owing to coronavirus, such as Rotherham United, have played as few as 22.

Rovers are just one of eight Championship sides in league action this weekend, facing Middlesbrough on Sunday, with both having been knocked out of the FA Cup.

Swansea, following a third round win against Stevenage, remain in the competition and host league rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the reward of a tie against Manchester City or Cheltenham Town in the fifth round.

Swansea have a game next midweek, against Brentford, that a re-arranged fixture from this weekend.

Neither side have a game on Tuesday, February 2, or Tuesday, February 9, though the latter would collide with the FA Cup fifth round which will be played in midweek.

Both managers are understood to want to play the game as soon as possible so to not lose ground, with a decision expected next week on the rescheduled date.

Swans boss Steve Cooper said: “We don’t want to fall behind, for the integrity of the league more than anything. But it was unavoidable.”

The postponement means Rovers will play just four league games this month, as well as the FA Cup defeat to Doncaster.

They currently have six matches scheduled for February, five in March, six in April and two in May.

There is an international break to come in March, with Rovers having no game between the trip to Norwich City on March 20 and the Good Friday game at Wycombe on April 2.
