Luke Brennan has been recalled by Rovers - seeing his loan spell at AFC Fylde cut short.

The teenage winger will return to Rovers having made just six appearances for the National League North side.

Brennan signed for the Coasters in November but struggled to hold down a first-team place, appearing in just six matches.

He is now expected to see out the season as part of Billy Barr’s Under-23s squad, as they return to action on Monday, January 25 against Manchester City.

Brennan made his first-team debut off the bench in the defeat to Nottingham Forest in October, and signed a long-term professional contract with the club while still a second year scholar.

He starred in the FA Youth Cup run of 2019/20 that took Rovers to the last four, beaten by eventual winners City.

The club have high hopes for Brennan, and won’t be perturbed by a loan move that didn’t work out, with the winger set to play a key role for the Under-23s in the second half of their Premier League 2 campaign.

Brennan started five matches for Rovers Under-23s before his loan move, scoring once.
