Fleetwood Town have announced the signing of Rovers youngster Joe Hilton on a seven-day emergency loan.

The goalkeeper looks set to start their Papa John's Trophy clash against Hull City tonight (5.30pm) and is also available for their League One clash with Portsmouth this weekend.

It comes following news that Alex Cairns currently isolating due to Covid-19 while first-choice Joel Coleman is not yet fit enough to feature.

Hilton hasn’t played for Rovers since February because of injury, but looks set to make his senior debut this evening.

The 21-year-old, who signed for Rovers in 2018 from Everton., has previously spent time on loan with Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division side Marine in the second half of that season.

Fleetwood, who parted company with Joey Barton earlier this month, haven’t played since Boxing Day because of a coronavirus outbreak in the camp, but return to action tonight.

They will do so without Jayson Leutwiler, the 31-year-old former Rovers goalkeeper seeing his time with the League One side come to an end earlier this month, despite playing 18 times in the first half of the season.
