Rovers player ratings from the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

Aynsley Pears 5

Won’t want to see back the Doncaster goal, the ball slipping through his hands. Made one second half stop, but doesn’t look as comfortable with the ball at his feet, or have the same presence, as Kaminski.

John Buckley 5

Moments of class in the first half, and never stopped getting forward in the second. But his final ball into the box was particularly disappointing. Couldn’t turn home a late chance when found by Rothwell.

Darragh Lenihan 5

Missed Rovers’ best chance inside the six yard box, but defensively, struggled. Backed off too much in the lead-up to the Doncaster goal, while John-Jules ran in behind him to bring an early save from Pears.

Bradley Johnson 5

Given another run in central defence, but Rovers will hope he won’t need to fill in for much longer. The time where his midfield skills were required has looked fine, and the same for the physical stuff, but positioning understandably needs work.

Amari’i Bell 4

His final ball was lacking, which led to his replacement at the break, having not made the most of the opportunities he had. Richards pulled off his shoulder for a first half chance. Didn’t take what was a golden opportunity to try and stake a claim for a shirt.

Lewis Travis 5

Looked like a player who had been out for three months, his touch was off, and was often chasing his own touch. Got through an hour, but after the high of his return seven days earlier, didn’t hit the same heights.

Stewart Downing 6

Showed his class in the early stages, the one player able to put his foot on the ball on what was a difficult surface. Booked for halting a counter-attack, but his departure left Rovers lacking control in the middle of the park.

Tom Trybull 5

Still needing to play with more urgency, despite a decent opening to the game which saw him create a good chance for Lenihan. Interesting to see with the return of Travis how much game-time he will get as it appears his face doesn’t fit with what Rovers are looking for at the moment.

Tyrhys Dolan 5

Saw plenty of the ball, showed his repertoire of tricks, but final ball was lacking on too many occasions. Looked a little lost at times, and a way below his early season best.

Ben Brereton 5

Ran down blind alleys and wasted shooting opportunities from distance, with two failing to test Balcombe.

Bradley Dack 5

Denied what would have been a goal with his final touch by a flying Balcombe save. Couldn’t get involved in the game as much as he would have wanted playing as a false nine.

Subs

Barry Douglas (for Bell, 46) 5

Was sent on to try and add better delivery from that flank, and while he got into more promising positions, including inside the box, couldn't pick the final pass.

Joe Rothwell (for Travis, 58) 6

Spent a spell as the most defensive-minded of the midfielders in a bizarre passage of play, but should have had an assist for the equaliser with a great pass for the late Buckley miss.

Harvey Elliott (for Downing, 58) 6

Instantly in the action, had one shot parried by Balcombe and another two blocked, and went close to putting Brereton in with a fine pass.

Adam Armstrong (for Trybull, 63) 5

Rovers wouldn't have wanted to use him, but they did just after the hour, though he had a very quiet half hour outing.

Jacob Davenport (for Dack, 72) 5

Unfortunate not to start. Added some welcome midfield presence when he did arrive. Booked for a late challenge.

Not used: Thomas Kaminski, Dan Pike, Joe Grayson, Sam Gallagher
