Doncaster Rovers have added a new goalkeeper to their ranks ahead of the FA Cup tie at Ewood Park.

Ellery Balcombe has joined on loan until the end of the season as Darren Moore finally landed a new No.1.

The League One side had looked set to hand just a fifth senior appearance to goalkeeper Louis Jones for this weekend's FA Cup tie.

QPR goalkeeper Joe Lumley had been on an emergency loan ever since former No.1 Joe Bursik was recalled by Stoke City owing to their own problems between the sticks.

However, those can only be extended outside of transfer windows, and now into January, the clubs would need to agree on either a loan extension to the end of the season, or a permanent deal.

Instead, Moore moved to bring in Brentford youngster Balcombe who has previously had spells with Boreham Wood and Danish side Viborg FF.

Balcombe has also been capped at youth level for England and been on the bench for Thomas Frank's side this season.

“Ellery was somebody who was on our shortlist of goalkeepers in the summer,” Moore told his club’s website.

“We’re pleased to get him in and we’re grateful to Brentford for allowing us to have him. He’s a good young goalkeeper that comes highly recommended and is highly-rated, and highly thought of.”

Doncaster haven’t played since the defeat to Shrewsbury Town on December 22 after their squad was forced to self-isolate following positive Covid-19 tests being recorded.
