BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche saw his side open up a five-point gap over the Premier League's relegation zone thanks to a 1-0 win over Sheffield United, but he was forced to ponder matters away from the field of play.

The much-talked about takeover of the club looks set to be completed by American sports investors ALK in a matter of days.

But despite the suggestion that funds would be made available for the January transfer market should everything go through as intended, Dyche has not had any dialogue with chairman Mike Garlick about the current state of play.

“It really seems to be big news to everyone else, apart from the board of the club letting me know,” the Clarets boss said of the possible deal.

“It’s big news for everyone except the manager. I still don’t know anything. When I have definite knowledge that the thing is done then there will be a discussion, until then there won’t.”

Burnley signed off 2020 on a winning note thanks to Ben Mee's first goal since suffering a season-ending injury six months ago.

The Clarets captain headed home a Robbie Brady corner against bottom club Sheffield United, and it was enough to ensure the Blades ended the year without a win so far this season, while Burnley have three wins in five and have suffered only one defeat in their last six outings.

“It’s an important one (win),” said Dyche.

“We’ve had a really good run of results. We had one arguably taken away from us on Sunday (at Leeds) and I think we delivered a different kind of performance.

“I don’t think we were as good as we were on Sunday, particularly in the second half, but our defensive shape and the ability to work hard without the ball has seen us through a tough game.

“That being said, we created two golden chances early in the game. It’s not easy to score goals, but if you do put those away, the game could have panned out differently.

“We didn’t take them but then we scored from a set-piece. It was a great ball in and a great finish.

“We believe in the set-piece work we do. We simplify it for the players and really put the onus on them to attack the ball. It’s a fantastic header and a great ball in.”
