Lewis Travis is set to follow Bradley Dack’s lead and hand Rovers another much-needed fitness boost.

Travis is back training with the squad and could make his return to the matchday 20 for the FA Cup tie with Doncaster Rovers on January 9. The 23-year-old midfielder has been out since the Carabao Cup tie at Newcastle United on September 15 when he injured his lateral knee ligament.

Rovers were boosted by the return of Bradley Dack, involved in a matchday squad for the first time in over 12 months against Sheffield Wednesday when Ben Brereton was also back after missing five matches.

The injury list is beginning to ease, with Elliott Bennett also coming towards the end of his rehabilitation period after two months, with Travis the closest to returning. The all-action midfielder has been a fixture in the side in the last two-and-a-half seasons and will provide even more options to Tony Mowbray in the centre of the pitch.

Tom Trybull missed the weekend draw with Sheffield Wednesday for personal reasons.

Here’s a run down of Rovers’ injured players and when they should be due back.

Lewis Travis (Knee)

Out since: September 15

Set to return: Next 10 days

Mowbray said: “Travis is training on the grass with the team but might be a week or 10 days away."

Elliott Bennett (Ankle)

Out since: October

Set to return: Early 2021

Mowbray said: “Elliott might be a week further back (than Brereton), but he’s back out on the training pitches and is back bouncing around the group. He’s in a good mood and isn’t far away now.”

Corry Evans (Hamstring)

Out since: November 7

Set to return: Late February

What Mowbray said: “I’ve seen him out on the grass, he’s a way away. Corry is building up core fitness and is still a way off. The surgeon said 12-14 weeks and he’s about halfway through that now so we will stick to what they say.”

Joe Rankin-Costello (Hamstring)

Out since: November 22

Set to return: End of February

Mowbray said: “It’s not a light hamstring injury, it’s quite a severe hamstring injury. It’s a big blow for him and us. Joe has had a few muscle injuries and we need to get to the bottom of that.”

Derrick Williams (Quadricep)

Out since: December 12

Set to return: Two-three months

Mowbray said: “He played with an injury, that was the players’ decision, and it probably hasn’t done him any favours, or us any favours long-term, because it now looks like it will keep him out for a sustained time.”

Scott Wharton (Achilles)

Out since: December 5

Set to return: Out for up to 10 months

Mowbray said: “Scott has got a long way infront of him. He understands he’s got a lot of months to overcome, rehabilitating, and working hard.”
