Tony Mowbray has revealed Tom Trybull won’t be available for Rovers’ game with Rotherham United tomorrow night.

The on-loan midfielder missed the weekend defeat to Norwich City having been unavailable to feature against his parent club as per the agreement that saw him move to Ewood Park.

However, Mowbray says the 27-year-old won’t be able to return to the squad against the Millers tomorrow night because of illness, as Rovers look to get back to winning ways.

His absence would make it eight first-team players unavailable, though Mowbray hopes that situation will start to ease as time ticks towards 2021.

Rovers have options in the middle of the park, having made a triple substitution in that area in the second half of the Norwich City defeat, but will be without Trybull once again.

“I don’t think he is (available), he couldn’t play against Norwich City because he’s a Norwich City player, though I don’t want to give too much away because I don’t want to tell the opposition who’s playing and who’s not playing,” Mowbray said.

“I’ve written down Brereton, Dack, Rankin-Costello, Evans, Bennett, Travis, Wharton, all first-team players all unavailable.

“We’re getting on with it, we have to get back to winning ways on Wednesday so let’s prepare a team and try and get three points tomorrow.”

Defender Scott Wharton is the longest term injury, with the 23-year-old set to miss an extended period with an Achilles injury sustained at Brentford earlier this month.

“Scott has got a long way infront of him I would suggest,” the manager added.

“He understands he’s got a lot of months to overcome, rehabilitating, and working hard and I’m sure he’ll do that.

“It’s never easy, particularly as he showed the consistency we were looking for from our young defenders.

“He got over that first barrier of the first couple of games, looking very steady, and it’s a blow for us and for him you would have to say, particularly with the situation around Daniel Ayala and Derrick Williams and their fitness issues.

“Scott was proving to be a very consistent performer for us so it’s a big blow.”

Joe Rankin-Costello meanwhile is set to be out until February with the hamstring injury picked up at Luton Town in November, with Corry Evans' hamstring problem keeping him out for at least another month.
