BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche was pleased to see his side make the most of Arsenal’s struggles as he enjoyed a first Premier League win against the Gunners.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's own goal handed the Clarets a 1-0 victory after Granit Xhaka had been sent off for the hosts.

Dyche’s side have not had an easy start to the season themselves but moved out of the relegation zone as a result of picking up three points at the Emirates.

“There is a bit of noise about Arsenal at the minute, and when you come to these places, the first thing you want to do is make it awkward for them,” Dyche told the club website.

“You want to make the game as different as possible, and not try and out-possession these teams, because that’s just not going to work.

“You have to make life awkward by being hard to break down, which we did, but then you have to try and stamp your authority on the game.

“Even big players, and they have plenty, find it awkward when things aren’t quite going well and the confidence isn’t flowing through the club.

“But I have the utmost respect for Arsenal and you can’t come here and expect them not to be a good outfit, because they are and we’ve had to work very hard for it.

“We know they have quality individuals and that you are going to have to defend well against them – and I thought we did that.”

Dyche felt Arsenal responded well to going a man down and commended his players on wrestling control to eventually win the game.

“The 10-man situation gave them something to grow again,” he said.

“The freedom comes weirdly because the expectations changed and they responded well to that, it gave them a cause. They had a couple of chances and then we calmed it down and looked a little more in control of things.

“I’m not going to start questioning sides like Arsenal and the depth of squad they have got there, that is their challenge.”
