Harvey Elliott continued his excellent start to life at Rovers with a stunning solo goal against Norwich City – the high spot of the afternoon for Tony Mowbray’s men.

It was a third goal in Rovers colours for the teenager who will spend this season at Ewood Park, adding to the four assists that he has chalked up.

Elliott has demonstrated his qualities across his 12 starts, and one substitute appearance, for Rovers having been allowed to leave Liverpool to further his development.

He’s slotted straight into the side on the right side of the attack, linking well with central striker Adam Armstrong and right back Ryan Nyambe.

There was a level of surprise that Liverpool allowed the 17-year-old to go out on loan on deadline day, but a joint decision between player and club looks to be benefiting all parties.

Liverpool are in regular contact with Elliott over his development, and coach Pep Lijnders believes the experience of playing Championship football with Rovers is allowing the attacking protégé to flourish.

He told his club’s website: "I miss him! I would have loved to continue working with him, but it’s a good decision of course because he can play many games and he can show what he’s really about.

"I think he’s doing that, he’s impressing everyone. For us and for me, it’s not a surprise – if that’s here, there or wherever, he will surprise and show what he can bring.

"It says a lot that he didn’t need a lot of time to adapt because he has this overview, this technical level, this maturity for his age is unbelievable.

"At the same time, the constant threat of the final pass and the dribble and the shot. We miss him, to be honest, we really miss him. We wish he were here with us."
