WANDERERS’ players have been dragged into the training ground first thing on Sunday morning to explain themselves after their 6-3 hammering by Port Vale.

Ian Evatt told his players they should report to Lostock first thing after the club shipped half a dozen goals at home for the first time in 24 years.

The Bolton boss conceded that he would shoulder his portion of the blame for team selection, adding that his midfield was “too open” with the selection of youngster George Thomason in place of the injured Andy Tutte.

But he wants to see his squad face-to-face on Sunday morning as he launches an inquiry into a bizarre result which will live long in the memory for Bolton fans.

“It is hard because I am so angry and emotional right now that I might end up saying something I regret in the future – so I have told them I will see them at 9am at Lostock,” he said.

“If they are going to spoil my Sunday, we’ll spoil theirs as well and sift through the debris and make sure they know, as I said, that in a Bolton Wanderers shirt is not acceptable.

“We can’t accept that performance. You can say all you want that the changes we made were good but anyone can come on to the pitch at 6-1 down and play well. There’s no pressure.

“Genuinely I have never witnessed a game like that, not only in my managerial career but in my playing career either. Never one as open as that.”
