CRISITAN Montano believes Port Vale can trigger their season with a win at Wanderers on Saturday.

The 28-year-old got himself on the scoresheet as a substitute against Leyton Orient on Saturday 14 minutes from time, seemingly halting a run of four consecutive defeats for John Askey’s men.

But an 85th-minute James Brophy goal meant more dropped points, with Vale slipping to 13th in the League Two table.

Montano’s spectacular strike against Orient counted for nothing in the end – but the versatile wide man insists the team can turn their fortunes around at the University of Bolton Stadium this weekend.

“The amount of ricochets we had in the box and nothing was falling to us,” he told Stoke on Trent Live. “Then I hit one from that distance and it goes in. I felt we were going to go on and win, we were the better team and had worked so hard.

“But as a team we know what we have got. With the belief and togetherness we have in the squad, we know we can pull this around. All it takes is one game, one result.

“At the moment I don’t really mind if I play well so long as we win the games. I don’t mind if it’s a scrappy performance but we get all three points.

"If you look at the start of the season, we weren’t playing as well but we were getting the three points, nicking something out of the game.

“Now I would say we are playing better but we aren’t getting any luck. But it’s about staying positive and believing in ourselves.

“We have tremendous belief in the squad. It is probably the best bunch of lads I have played with in terms of togetherness, quality and positivity as well.”

Port Vale are likely to make changes on Saturday after David Amoo picked up a hamstring injury.

Montano could come back into the starting line-up after being dropped to the bench, and says he does not mind if he is used as a winger or at full-back.

“I am attacking-minded but can do that from wherever I play,” he said. “Playing left back gives me more license to run at people from deep.

“I am comfortable playing left back, left wing or wherever.

“I never stop learning and, so as long as I am playing, I am happy.”
