Rovers will host Doncaster Rovers – as they did in the Carabao Cup in August – in the FA Cup third round.

The teams were paired together in the third round draw, with Rovers having edged out the League One side in the league cup in their first match of the season.

Goals from Lewis Holtby, Joe Rankin-Costello and Adam Armstrong saw Rovers to victory via a 3-2 scoreline on that day.

Doncaster’s previous visit to Ewood Park saw them run out 2-1 winners in Rovers’ first home game of the 2017/18 League One campaign, though Tony Mowbray's secured promotion in the reverse fixture at the Keepmoat Stadium in April 2018.

Third round ties will be played on the weekend of January 8/9/10 and will be decided on the day, with extra time and penalties, if required, rather than a replay.

Rovers start 2021 with a trip to Birmingham City on January 2, with the tie coming before the home game with Stoke City on January 16.

Rovers were beaten in round three of last season’s competition, knocked out by Birmingham City at St Andrew’s

Indeed, Rovers are yet to progress beyond round three under Tony Mowbray, losing 4-2 to Newcastle United after extra-time in a replay in 2019, and in 2018 by Hull City. That season they did enter the competition at the round one stage however, after dropping into League One, seeing off Barnet in round one and Crewe Alexandra after a replay in round two.
