Rovers player ratings from the 2-1 win over Barnsley at Ewood.

Thomas Kaminski 8 (MAN OF THE MATCH)

Denied a deserved clean sheet by a late Palmer strike, but pulled off two excellent stops to deny an Anderson header and Frieser curler. Has added so much confidence to the side since his arrival in the summer.

Ryan Nyambe 8

Had a big hand in both goals getting forward from right back. His pull-back created the opener for Armstrong, his cross leading to Gallagher’s second. His final ball, as well as his heading, have improved no end. Won four tackles.

Darragh Lenihan 7

Saw so much of the ball early on, as Rovers were forced back, and any attempted longer balls failed to find the target. Did stand up well to any of his defensive work, with Rovers put under pressure from set plays in particular.

Scott Wharton 7

A fourth consecutive start, and again didn’t look fazed alongside Lenihan. Improved after some early loose passes, and was unfortunate that a head injury ended what was another fine afternoon.

Barry Douglas 6

Was just settling into the game before a muscle injury ended his game 14 minutes in.

Tom Trybull 6

Spaces opened up at times in the middle of the pitch, but got to grips with shielding the back four as the game went on. Blocked a Woodrow shot in the second half. Could have been more progressive with his passing.

Lewis Holtby 6

Dropped deeper and deeper in the first half to try and dictate the play, but had mixed fortunes with that. Wasn’t as instrumental as at Preston, but did get through plenty of running off the ball.

Joe Rothwell 6

Couldn’t make use of the rare moments of space he got in the first half. One fine pass for Elliott in the second half when he was busy in his work. Booked for kicking the ball away late on.

Harvey Elliott 6

Played in Nyambe in the lead up to the opening goal, but too often played backwards, unable to have a real effect on the game before being replaced.

Ben Brereton 7

Drifted in and out of the game. Failed to get a shot away when breaking clear of the last man in the second half. Did have one effort saved by Walton.

Adam Armstrong 8

Was a spectator for much of the first half, but came to life just before the break, emphatically finishing into the roof of the net, moments after seeing a shot saved. Became more involved in general play after the break, setting up a good chance for Bell.

Subs

Amari’i Bell (for Douglas, 14) 6

Locked in a good tussle with Brittain in the second half. Had a big chance to score, only to shoot straight at Walton. Was caught out of position in the lead up to the Barnsley goal.

Sam Gallagher (for Elliott, 66) 7

Now has three goals off the bench, and this the pick of them, an excellent arrowed shot into the corner. Was unfortunate not to start, and more than likely will on Wednesday.

Bradley Johnson (for Trybull, 66) 7

Another who looks set to start against Millwall. Was sent on to add some steel to the midfield, and height as Barnsley threatened from set plays.

Hayden Carter (for Wharton, 76) 6

A third Rovers outing for the defender who was sent on after the injury to Wharton.
