Rovers have confirmed that goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski has been withdrawn from the Belgium squad after recording a positive test for Covid-19.

He was initially added to Roberto Martinez’s squad for the home games with Switzerland (November 11), England (November 15) and Denmark (November 18), after the withdrawal of Anderlecht's Hendrik Van Crombrugge.

The 28-year-old was also in the squad for the games against England last month.

Kaminski has impressed at Ewood Park since his arrival from AA Gent, keeping four clean sheets in his eight appearances, and was back in action for the win over QPR on Saturday after a groin problem.

However, the Belgian FA revealed on Tuesday night that Kaminski had been withdrawn from the squad after testing positive for Covid-19, with Rovers confirming the news on Wednesday morning.

The goalkeeper was tested along with the rest of the national team squad on Monday, but is understood to be asymptomatic, and feeling well, but will be forced to self-isolate in Belgium, before returning to the UK next week.

However, there remains a hope that the timescales will allow the Belgian stopper, who also forced to quarantine when first signing for the club in August, to be available for the game at Luton Town on November 21.

The Rovers squad will undergo Covid-19 testing two days before the game at Kenilworth Road, with no mandatory testing programme in the EFL this season.

Aynsley Pears had deputised for the three games that Kaminski missed because of injury, but was absent from the squad at the weekend due to illness.

The 23-year-old is expected to be fit and available for the Luton trip as Rovers hope to welcome back several senior players for the trip south.

They include Barry Douglas and Amari’i Bell who have both missed matches in recent weeks having been forced to self-isolate.

The Rovers squad return to training today, after a few days off following the QPR win, but won’t be using the indoor facilities at Brockhall, instead returning to a similar approach as they took back in June.

That will allow the Senior Training Centre to undergo a deep clean that the club hope will alleviate the Covid-issues that have hit the playing squad, and backroom team, in recent weeks.

The club’s analysts were all forced to self-isolate earlier this month, while several other coaching staff have also been absent from matches.
