ACCRINGTON Stanley have signed former Blackburn Rovers striker Lewis Mansell.

The Burnley-born forward has signed a one year deal with the club after leaving Partick Thistle earlier this year.

Mansell began his career with Blackburn Rovers and he went on to feature regularly for the club's development side in the Premier League 2.

While he failed to make a senior appearance for Rovers he was prolific at Under-18s level, but struggled to replicate that form in the Under-23s.

He scored five times in 14 appearances in 2017/18 as Rovers won the Premier League 2 Division Two title but managed just three substitute appearances this term before being loaned out.

The 23-year-old went out on loan to FC United of Manchester and Partick, with the striker then joining the latter on a permanent basis in May 2019.

He scored three goals during his time in Scotland, including a goal in the club's 2-1 defeat to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-final.

Mansell is delighted to be returning to his native East Lancashire.

"I think I've got what it takes to play in League One and hopefully go higher," he told the Stanley website.

"I've always followed Accrington anyway, my grandparents live close to the stadium so I've always been around here.

"I went to a few games with my dad when I was younger, so it's a club that I've known about for quite a while."
