Norwich City boss Daniel Farke says Rovers were the only club to come calling for Tom Trybull as he stood by the club’s decision to allow the midfielder to leave on loan.

Trybull was a key part of the Canaries side that won promotion from the Championship two seasons ago, and started 14 Premier League matches this season, but found himself out of the first-team picture this term.

Indeed, he had only made six appearances for Norwich in 2020 before his substitute appearance for Rovers in the midweek defeat at Watford.

Tony Mowbray believes Rovers have landed something of a coup by bringing in the 27-year-old on a season-long loan deal, even going as far as comparing his style to that of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Trybull is still contracted at Carrow Road until 2020, but Farke felt it was the right call to allow him to leave on loan.

“He had lots of time but no other club apart from Blackburn called us,” Farke told the Pink’un.

“So we have a decision whether to pay his salary and have an individual coach working with him. Will he lose his value in the future, as he still contracted to us? He can’t play against us and we have the right to call him back in January to allow a different move.

“It is tricky but from the business point of view it was the right decision and also Tom’s big wish.

“Right now if we are scared Tom wins the Championship title for Blackburn then we should have kept him. We were transparent and honest and even before the summer we told Tom he could leave.”

Oliver Skipp was signed by Norwich on a season-long loan from Tottenham and has started every match this season, leaving Trybull frozen out.

And while there was surprise at his exit, Farke says the situation was explained to Trybull, a player he pushed hard to bring in back in 2018.

He added: “Tom, as a player, always wants to be on the pitch and when he is not he can be a bit moody and his body language is maybe not great.

“We analysed last season in the Premier League and we felt we needed to add some physicality and pace in central midfield.

“We needed some fresh legs, fresh energy.”
