Rovers were last night (Monday) looking to finalise a deal to sign Greek Under-21 international goalkeeper Antonis Stergiakis.

The club were looking to make a move before last night's 11pm deadline, but are still hopeful of being able to get a deal across the line, believing all the necessary paperwork has been submitted in time.

Rovers have agreed a fee with Slavia Sofia for Stergiakis, as well personal terms for the player who is into the final year of his deal at the Bulgarian side.

The 'keeper flew in to complete his medical, but with the deadline approaching, it was expected that it wouldn't be until today (Tuesday) that they would learn whether the deal had been done in time.

Reports in Bulgaria say that Slavia president Ventzislav Stefanov has confirmed a deal has been agreed, and will go through, with Rovers now tieing up some of the finer details before an announcement is made.

Stergiakis would provide competition for No.1 goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski who was signed from Belgian side AA Gent in August, and allow Andrew Fisher who has been providing back-up, to go out on loan.

The 21-year-old has made 62 club appearances for Slavia Sofia who ply their trade in the top tier of Bulgarian football, with Stergiakis having made two starts this season.

He has won five caps for Greece Under-21s, and been a regular in their youth set-ups.

Rovers have until October 16 to complete deals for any Premier League players on loan, and are also looking at the free agent market in Europe, with that still an avenue to them despite last night's deadline.
