BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche took the positives from his side’s Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Manchester City.

The holders, bidding to win the competition for a fourth successive season, ran out 3-0 winners at Turf Moor thanks to two goals from Raheem Sterling and another from Ferran Torres.

Dyche however had James Tarkowski and Ashley Barnes back in action in what was a real boost to his depleted squad.

There was also a strong display from Bailey Peacock-Farrell in goal as Nick Pope was given the night off.

“We were playing a top side, a strong side,” the Clarets boss said.

“They hurt us in the critical moments, as teams like this do. There were too many turnovers in critical areas.

“The positives for us are Ashley Barnes was out there, Tarky (James Tarkowski) was back and Bailey Peacock is developing all the time.

“I’m pleased for him. He’s conceded three but come off the pitch having played really well.”

Dyche felt his side could have had a couple of penalties, but acknowledged that would not have changed the outcome of the game.

“I scratch my head how we can’t get penalties,” he said.

“They tell me about these soft touches and when I ask they say there was contact. Yet when it’s our players it’s never enough contact.

“But, I must make clear, that doesn’t mean we’d win the game. They’re a top-class side.”
