Rovers player ratings for the 4-0 win over Derby County.

Thomas Kaminski 8

A second successive clean sheet. Good save to deny a Sibley header in the first half and Hector-Ingram one-on-one in the second. Terrific distribution, sharp off his line, but well protected on this occasion.

Joe Rankin-Costello 7

Took a kick to the face in the first minute before a hamstring injury forced him off. Inbetween that was no shortage of desire to get forward and pushed Jozwiak back as he linked up well with Dolan.

Darragh Lenihan 8

Booked for pulling back Sibley in the first half, but who knows how the game would have turned out were it not for a clearance off the line. Showed a real desire to keep a clean sheet.

Derrick Williams 8

Looked so assured and composed in his work again and is benefiting from his injury worries hopefully being behind him. His partnership with Lenihan is looking promising once again.

Amari’i Bell 8

Covers the ground so well which allows him to get forward in support of the attacks, but still needs more productivity from his final ball. Allowed Byrne to get the better of him once in the second half, but generally solid defensively and always a good outlet going forward.

Bradley Johnson 9

Aggressive and combative at the base of the Rovers midfield, but still given licence to get forward, as seen by two goals from outside the box, the first a real jack-hammer of a strike. Started last season in similar style. Has an ever-increasing role as the experienced man in this team.

Lewis Holtby 8

Conducted the play from the middle of the park, but looks more willing to engage in the more physical side of the game. A lovely first-half cross to create a chance for Brereton. Always looked to play on the front foot and be positive in his passing, playing a key role in the fourth.

Joe Rothwell 8

Appears to be thriving in the deeper role, allowing him to drive forward and link with the forward players. His ability to get about the pitch for longer has improved, and had a hand in two goals. Could have one himself, but his efforts after darting runs were rather tame and easily saved.

Tyrhys Dolan 8

Full back Buchanan will have slept well after being given a torrid time by the winger. Step-overs and pace win him plaudits, but the way he presses and defends from the front is just as pleasing. Safe in possession again, and another goal to his name.

Ben Brereton 9

Superb hold-up play with his back to goal, which gave Rovers an out-ball down the left every time. Was positive in his work and looked hungry for a goal, firing off eight shots in all. Hit the post before Dolan tapped in the opener, and had a header well saved by Marshall.

Adam Armstrong 8

Was quiet in the first half as madness ensued around him, bar a late break in injury time. Second half he looked desperate to get his name on the scoresheet which came with a tap-in from Chapman’s cross. Had two other efforts saved by Marshall.

Subs

Ryan Nyambe (for Rankin-Costello, 60) 6

Beaten in the air by Buchanan for a late Debry chance but completed 100 per cent of his passes. Will get his place in the side back after the injury to Rankin-Costello.

Harry Chapman (for Dolan, 67) 7

Might not have always done the tracking back Mowbray wanted, but did his job going forward to lay on a tap-in for Armstrong.

Elliott Bennett (for Rothwell, 79) 6

A first appearance of the season, greeted with a late challenge from Rooney which saw him booked.
