Manchester United are keen to find a loan move for midfielder James Garner, with Rovers among the clubs to have been offered the teenager.

Garner is highly-rated at Old Trafford and has already made seven appearances for the United first-team, including two as a substitute in the Premier League.

He made three starts in the Europa League last term, as well as another as a substitute, as he was in the league cup tie with Colchester United.

However, the big-money buys of Donny van Beek this summer, and Bruno Fernandes in January, have pushed Garner down the pecking order at United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to get him experience out on loan.

Joel Pereira has already joined Huddersfield on loan from United, while Tahith Chong, Aliou Traore and Matej Kovar have left the Old Trafford giants to gain experience elsewhere on loan this season.

Newly-capped Wales international Dylan Levitt is understood to be close to a loan exit, while Ethan Laird, Arnau Puigmal and Max Taylor are also attracting interest.

There is also interest in defender Di'Shon Bernard, but fellow centre-back Teden Mengi and Northern Ireland international Ethan Galbraith are set to stay with Neil Wood's under-23s this season.

Garner is the latest player United are keen to get senior football, with Rovers, Millwall and Huddersfield three clubs to have been offered him.

Rovers are in the market for a central midfielder this summer, most likely on loan, with their budget likely to used up by strengthening in defence.

Thomas Kaminski signed from AA Gent, but central defensive deals have proven hard to close for Tony Mowbray, who is also wanting to add a left back, and possibly a right back this summer.

That leaves plenty of work to be done before the transfer window closes on October 15.
