Accrington Stanley have made Chelsea prospect Tariq Uwakwe their latest summer signing.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who can operate centrally or out wide, has represented England at several different youth levels.

He has been at Stamford Bridge since the age of seven and played 11 times for the Blues’ development squad last season.

Uwakwe said: “All I'm trying to do is impress here and push on from that really.

"I can't remember the last time I played a competitive match that was actually for three points, so I'm raring to go.

"I'm a player that just likes to get on the ball, whether it's in the defensive or offensive third, I just like to get on the ball, link up the play and get more players involved."

Reds boss John Coleman is confident he has got a player who will delight fans once they can return to the Wham Stadium.

"He's an exciting player from Chelsea, and he gets to come here and take his chance in men's football,” the Stanley manager said.

"Hopefully we can give him the platform to kick on and he can excite our fans when they eventually return.

"We've had a look for other options going forward, and he's one that stood out so we're pleased to get it over the line."

Uwakwe is Stanley’s eighth summer signing and fourth on loan, Mo Sangare and Tom Allan arriving on temporary stints from Newcastle and Ryan Cassidy having joined from Watford.
