Bournemouth have issues to contend with heading in to their opening Championship fixture with Rovers – not least the future of star frontman Callum Wilson - but do so on the back of a fine pre-season friendly win.

The England striker has been the subject of bids from both Newcastle United and Aston Villa, reportedly around the £20m mark, with Steve Bruce's side leading the way in the race for his signature.

The Cherries have already banked around £60m from the sales of Nathan Ake to Manchester City and Aaron Ramsdale to Sheffield United, with Wilson, along with former Rover Josh King and attacking midfielder David Brooks also attracting interest.

Wilson has 67 goals in 187 games in his six years at the club since joining from Coventry City and bagged the winner when the sides met in the Carabao Cup in August 2018.

However, it remains to be seen whether he will feature against Rovers next weekend given the interest in him, with manager Jason Tindall admitting the decision is out of his hands.

He told the Daily Echo: “In all my time at the football club, there has always been speculation, there’s always been people wanting our best players.

“Callum falls into that category and that bracket. I can’t begrudge anyone that wants to play at the highest level.

“But in terms of what happens from here, that’s for the club to decide.

“Whatever happens – if he stays I will be absolutely delighted as a manager.

“Or if he gets an opportunity to go and play at the highest level, he certainly deserves it for the hard work that he’s put in throughout the years.”

Tindall will take charge of the Cherries for the first time in a league fixture next Saturday after being appointed following the departure of Eddie Howe in wake of relegation from the Premier League.

He hopes to have striker Sam Surridge and experienced central defender Steve Cook available for the visit of Rovers after pair missed the 5-3 win over West Ham in their final pre-season match.

Bournemouth weren’t involved in the Carabao Cup first round so are yet to play a competitive fixture this season, but Tindall feels they head in to the Rovers clash with confidence after their win at the London Stadium.

“I thought it was a very good performance. The most pleasing thing for me was, first and foremost, the attitude and togetherness of the group was excellent,” he added.

“And to see the hard work that has been going on, on the training ground come out, and deliver the kind of performance that we did today.

“This was a place we came last season and lost 4-0.

“They are a very strong side, a Premier League side, so to come here and score five goals in a friendly, or any kind of game, is a great achievement.

“I’m delighted with how clinical we were in front of goal but, overall, just really pleased with the team performance.

“The most important thing was coming through the game physically with no injuries, delivering the performance we had asked and to see the work that has been done on the training ground.”
