BEN Gibson’s nightmare Burnley spell appears to be all but over.

According to reports, the central defender is closing in on a season-long loan move to Norwich, the deal having the option of a permanent switch that could be worth £8million should the Canaries bounce back to the Premier League.

A host of clubs have shown an interest in the 27-year-old, including his hometown club Middlesbrough, but Carrow Road looks set to be his next destination.

Gibson has not been with the Clarets’ squad since January, being given permission to train with Boro after frustrations about not sealing a move away from Turf Moor came to a head.

There were big hopes for Gibson on his arrival for a joint club record £15million back in August 2018 but he has made just six appearances for the club.

Ben Mee and James Tarkowski have been near ever-presents at the heart of Sean Dyche’s defence meaning the former England Under-21 international has been limited to just one Premier League start.
