Jack Vale has been forced to withdraw from the Wales Under-21 squad because of injury.

Vale hasn’t featured in either of Rovers two pre-season friendlies to date and is ruled out of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup tie with Doncaster.

That’s after picking up a hamstring injury in training on the eve of the opening friendly with Fleetwood Town.

The 19-year-old was still named in the Wales Under-21 squad ahead of their UEFA EURO 2021 qualifier next month, but has since withdrawn.

Paul Bodin’s side will travel to Zenica to face against Bosnia and Herzegovina next Friday (September 4).

Vale made his senior debut in the penultimate match of last season, coming off the bench in the 4-3 win over Reading, after getting his first taste of life in the senior set-up at Barnsley in June.

There is better news on the international front for youngster Louie Annesley who has been named in the preliminary Gibraltar squad for their upcoming international.

Annesley, who has nine caps for his country, has been included in a 38-man squad for the UEFA Nations League opener against San Marino on September 3.

The central defender signed from Gibraltar Premier Division champions Lincoln Red Imps in January 2019 but is yet to break in to the senior set-up.

He will look to cement his spot in the Under-23s side after injury last season.

Rovers have struggled with injuries among their Under-23s players of late, and that theme has continued with Joe Grayson picking up a groin problem.

Grayson, who made his senior debut two years ago, missed the majority of last season with a hamstring problem picked up in October that required surgery.

He was back fit again but has since suffered a setback and is set for another spell on the sidelines.
