Thomas Kaminski will travel to England today to complete his move to Rovers.

The goalkeeper was left out of the AA Gent side for their game with Antwerp at the weekend after the club agreed a fee with Rovers.

Kaminski will sign a two-year contract with Rovers, with the option for a further 12 months, but will be forced to quarantine for two weeks.

That will rule him out of the Carabao Cup opener against Doncaster Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday, but will enable him to be eligible for when the Championship season starts on September 12.

Rovers will travel to Bournemouth on the opening day where Kaminski will be expected to make his debut, and in doing so, become the first Belgian to ever play for the club.

It will solve the long search for a number one following the departure of David Raya last summer.

Christian Walton was signed on a season-long loan, but never a long-term option, as he returned to Brighton in a bid to break in to their senior side.

With Jayson Leutwiler having been released, that meant that Andrew Fisher and teenager Jordan Eastham played  45 minutes each in the pre-season friendly win over Fleetwood Town.

Having missed out on two overseas goalkeepers last season, Tony Mowbray was understandably cautious when asked about the deal for Kaminski over the weekend.

But everything is now agreed, with Rovers set to announce Kaminski as their first summer signing this week.

Kaminski was undisputed No.1 at AA Gent last season, starting all 29 of their Jupiler League fixtures before it was curtailed in March because of Covid-19.

He also played all 14 of their Europa League games which was ended with defeat to Roma in the knockout stages.

Kaminski has made 285 career appearances, almost exclusively in Belgium, apart from a short stint with FC Copenhagen. He is also capped by Belgium to Under-21 level.
