Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers side are at something of a crossroads currently.

Members of the old guard have left and there’s a lot of business to be done.

There’s an argument to be had that this is Mowbray’s most important transfer window since coming through the doors of Ewood Park

Granted there was a huge rebuilding job prior to the League One season but I don’t feel he had to plug just as many holes on that occasion.

First and foremost, we need a goalkeeper and a centre half. Without knowing all the details I still feel one of Mowbray’s biggest transfer blunders was the decision to sell David Raya.

On the other side of that, as inspired as the decision was to bring in Tosin Adarabioyo it was a temporary fix to a much larger problem.

We of course can look towards the Academy and look to utilise the talent there. Scott Wharton has clearly outgrown League Two and could step up to the plate should we fail to bring anyone in.

Andy Fisher has had a few loan spells away from the club now, none of which however have seen him command a regular place in the starting 11. Throwing him in at the deep end could be detrimental to both the club and his own development.

Of those keepers that have been linked, Kieren Westwood would be a good addition but his age is of great concern and wages would undoubtedly be a stumbling block.

Dillon Phillips is another and while I think he fits the mould, Charlton won’t allow him to be prised away so easily and I think there will be better value elsewhere.

Recent reports have seen us linked with Thomas Kaminski, I admittedly know very little about the Belgian shot-stopper, but experience in European competitions can only be a positive thing.

At a reported £450,000 as well, it does seem to be a relatively low risk transfer.

Finally the European scouting network seems to be being put to good use. Long may that continue.
