Rovers have made their move for AA Gent goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski in their long search to land a new No1.

The two clubs are understood to have agreed a fee for the 27-year-old who is into the final year of his deal at the Belgian club.

Negotiations over personal terms are ongoing, but those close to the deal say no issues are foreseen, with a medical expected to be held next week.

Kaminski started the opening game of the Belgian season earlier this month, but has since lost his place following the 2-1 defeat to Sint-Truiden.

A fee in the region of £500,000 is suggested to be the figure that will see Kaminski arrive at Ewood Park, and he could become the first signing of the summer.

Kaminski was undisputed No.1 at AA Gent last season, starting all 29 of their Jupiler League fixtures before it was curtailed in March because of Covid-19.

He also played all 14 of their Europa League games which was ended with defeat to Roma in the knockout stages.

Kaminski has made 285 career appearances, almost exclusively in Belgium, apart from a short stint with FC Copenhagen. He is also capped by Belgium to Under-21 level.

Rovers have been in the market for a new goalkeeper since the departure of David Raya last summer.

They missed out on two overseas targets last summer in a bid to replace the Spaniard after his £3m move to Brentford.

In the end they signing Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton on a season-long loan, with the 24-year-old appearing in all 46 Championship matches.

He has since returned to the Premier League side with a view to breaking in to the Seagulls’ first-team set-up, with Jayson Leutwiler, who has been back-up at Rovers throughout his three years at the club, was released at the end of his contract.

Rovers’ plan is to bring in two goalkeepers this summer, with Kaminski expected to be first choice, with a back-up option brought in either on a free transfer or on a loan deal.

Youngster Andrew Fisher is expected to start tomorrow’s friendly at Fleetwood Town, but providing Rovers do bring in two new goalkeepers, could be loaned out.
