Championship news on August 20….

OWLS EYE DOUBLE DEAL

Sheffield Wednesday are in the market for attackers, and are keen to do a double deal to boost their firepower.

Wigan Athletic forward Josh Windass finished the season on loan at Hillsborough, and the Owls are thought to be keen on making that a permanent switch.

The Latics’ administrators are said to have turned down their initial bid, but Garry Monk remains keen on the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, the Owls also want to sign Chelsea attacker Izzy Brown on loan. The 23-year-old, who already has had five separate loan moves, is also reportedly interesting Nottingham Forest.

CHAIRBOYS KEEN ON TAFAZOLLI

Wycombe Wanderers are about to embark on life in the Championship, and hope to make Ryan Tafazolli part of their plans.

The defender spent last season at Hull City, making 19 appearances, having joined from Peterborough United in 2019.

And Gareth Ainsworth is thought to be eyeing his signature to strengthen his central defensive options.

CARSON MAKES CITY SWITCH

Manchester City have re-signed Scott Carson on a season-long loan deal from Championship side Derby County.

Carson didn’t feature for Pep Guardiola’s side, but fulfils the role as a homegrown goalkeeping option within the squad.

The 34-year-old, who first signed on loan last summer, will provide back-up to Ederson following the departure of Claudio Bravo.

Derby are set to make an addition themselves in the goalkeeping department, with David Marshall lined up to join from Wigan on a two-year deal.

BRENTFORD PAIR IN DEMAND

The beaten play-off finalists have fought off potential suitors so far, but West Brom are said to have joined the race for two members of their squad.

Last season’s top scorer Ollie Watkins and influential full back Rico Henry are thought to be on the Baggies’ radar ahead of their Premier League campaign.

Watkins, aged 24, has a host of admirers, with Brentford having slapped a valuation in excess of £25m on his shoulders, as well as Said Benrahma.

Henry meanwhile has become a key member of the side since his switch from Walsall, with his former boss, Dean Smith, also a known admirer of him and Watkins.

RAMSDALE’S BLADES RETURN

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has signed for Sheffield United in a deal worth £18.5m.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year deal and joins the Blades from Bournemouth, their second big-money departure since relegation from the Premier League.

Ramsdale was at Bramall Lane as a teenager, before leaving to join the Cherries in 2016, but Chris Wilder made him his main target this season after the loan departure of Dean Henderson.

Bournemouth last month sold Nathan Ake to Manchester City in a deal worth around £41m.
