September 19 2019 – August 19 2020. It is now 11 months since Rovers last made a signing. Here’s an XI made up of players the club have been linked with/interested in, during that time…

DAVID CORNELL

A January target, while at Northampton Town, it looked a natural fit for Rovers to move for the Welshman after his release by the Sixfields club.

One of a series of goalkeepers linked with Rovers over the course of the last year, the 29-year-old was this week confirmed to have signed for Ipswich Town.

TARIQ LAMPTEY

Was all set to make a January loan switch to Rovers, once his new contract with Chelsea had been rubber-stamped.

It would have been a first loan spell for the teenager, but Brighton came calling on a permanent deal, and off to the AMEX he went.

Has impressed for the Seagulls in his eight Premier League appearances.

CHRISTOPHER MAGHOMA

The central defender cut short his time at Polish side Arka Gdynia earlier this year, his contract mutually terminated with still a year to run on the three year deal he signed in 2018.

The former Tottenham youngster played 36 times across his two year stay, but the last of those appearances came in March, before his decision to depart after the club’s relegation.

Rovers were reportedly eyeing the 22-year-old as a possible replacement for Tosin Adarabioyo after his return to Manchester City.

CHARLIE GOODE

Captain of Northampton Town, the central defender was part of a promotion-winning back three alongside Rovers youngster Scott Wharton last season.

Alongside Middlesbrough and QPR, who do seem to have genuine interest in the 25-year-old, Rovers’ name was included in the race for the 25-year-old who is said to command a fee in the region of £1m.

Goode, formerly of Scunthorpe United, played 45 times last season for the Cobblers and was key to their play-off success.

CONNOR OGILVIE

As Rovers were rocked by the season-ending injury to Greg Cunningham at the back end of 2019, Gillingham left back Connor Ogilvie was said to be on Tony Mowbray’s radar.

The 24-year-old, later named Gillingham’s player of the year, was enjoying a fine personal season when linked with Rovers as the former Tottenham youngster got his career up and running after a series of loan spells.

Went on to make 41 appearances for the Gills before the season was curtailed in March.

KAMIL JOZWIAK

A transfer budget of around £1m in January meant Rovers were rarely likely to get anywhere in their pursuit of the Polish international winger.

Jozwiak has been in fine form for Lech Poznan who are said to be holding out for much more than the 2million Euros they have reportedly been offered by Galatasaray in this window.

The 22-year-old scored eight goals, and contributed four assists, in his 35 league appearances last season.

CURTIS JONES

Rovers were looking at the loan market in January, with Premier League youngsters at the top of that list.

Mowbray hinted that one of his targets would be staying at his parent club after their FA Cup progress, with Jones fitting the bill after his exploits in the Merseyside derby tie against Everton.

Has since signed a new contract with the Reds and looks set to stay around Jurgen Klopp’s first team next season.

BEN WHITEMAN

A name who is continually linked with Rovers, but as yet, nothing has materialised.

A classy-ball playing midfielder, Doncaster are determined to keep hold of their captain, and have rejected several bids for the 24-year-old who has three years left to run on his Keepmoat Stadium deal.

CHRISTIAN ATSU

Rovers made a deadline day move for the Newcastle United winger who had been frozen out at St James’ Park.

Celtic were also in the running for the Ghanaian who instead opted to stay and fight for his place with Steve Bruce’s side.

The 28-year-old has made just two appearances since.

RONAN CURTIS

The Republic of Ireland international was another of Rovers’ January wing targets as they looked to add more firepower to their ranks.

Curtis fit the ball, providing productivity from the flanks, but Pompey’s asking price proved too much for Rovers who were forced to walk away from their pursuit of the forward who ended last season with 14 goals to his name, and a new contract.

PHILIPP HOFMANN

Reports in Germany and in the national press have suggested Tony Mowbray is keen on the 27-year-old who hit 17 goals for Bundesliga II side Karlsruhe.

Hoffman has experience of the Championship, after spending two years with Brentford following a switch from Kaiserslautern for a seven-figure fee.

Since leaving the Bees in 2017 he has spent time in his native Germany with Greuther Furth and Braunschweig and has a year left to run on his current contract.
