FORMER Clarets and England goalkeeper Joe Hart has joined Spurs on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old was released by Burnley in June at the end of his contract, after two years and 24 appearances for the club following his £3.5million move from Manchester City in 2018.

Having made his debut Hart started the first 19 Premier League games of his first season at Turf Moor, after making his debut in the goalless Europa League draw with Istanbul Basaksehir.

But when a 5-1 defeat to Everton stretched a poor run to one win in 12, Hart was replaced in goal by Tom Heaton, and that Boxing Day game was to be his last appearance that season as Burnley went on an eight-game unbeaten run in the Premier League to climb out of the bottom three on their way to finishing the campaign in 15th.

Nick Pope went on to take over as number one following Heaton's summer sale to Aston Villa last year, with Hart making only featuring three more times in the starting line-up - all in cup competitions.

Hart will be back-up to Hugo Lloris at Spurs, but in June he told the BBC: "The fact I have had to sit on the bench for 18 months in the Premier League is not going to define or crush me.

"I remember who I am. I remember playing for my local Sunday league team and trying to get into the Shrewsbury Town first team. I learned early - you need to keep things in perspective.

"You can have great things said about you in football, but you have to be strong on self-criticism, analyse what you are doing and be comfortable with it.

"Maybe from the outside, people are thinking it is a time for panic, but from the inside it is a time to look forward and see all the opportunities.

"I am young when it comes to goalkeeping. I am even younger when it comes to the mental age of a guy who just wants to go in goal and have people whack balls at him.

"I am under no illusions that Real Madrid are going to knock my door down, get (Thibaut) Courtois out and bring me in. But there is plenty more to come from me.

"I just need someone to believe in me and I will repay that faith."
