Rovers will learn their first opponents of the 2020/21 season tomorrow, with the Carabao Cup first round draw set to take place at 10am.

The Carabao Cup first round ties will this year be played in advance of the new EFL season, which gets under way on September 12.

Seven days prior to that, the first round of the league cup is set to take place, which will clash with the first international break of the season.

Clubs will be given the option of playing their ties on an alternative date, most likely August 29, but Rovers are understood to be keen on sticking to the September 5 date, having arranged a friendly with Bolton for the week earlier.

That will likely mean they will be without Darragh Lenihan, Derrick Williams and Corry Evans for their first round tie.

The 2020/21 competition has seen a number of changes with two legged semi-finals being replaced by a single tie and the first four rounds scheduled to take place on consecutive weeks.

Rounds two, three and four are scheduled for the midweek dates of September 15/16, September 22/23 and September 29/30, before the fifth round resumes in December.

Rovers will already face an increase in the number of midweek fixtures in their regular league season, up to 13 in 2020/21, due to the condensed nature of the 2020/21 campaign.

The draw will be unseeded, but will be split in to northern and southern sections, and shown live on Sky Sports.

The 24 clubs in League One and League Two will all enter, as will 22 Championship clubs, with Watford and Bournemouth exempt, after finishing 19th and 18th respectively in the Premier League.

They will join in round two of the competition, alongside the top flight clubs who haven’t qualified for Europe.

Rovers have made it beyond round one in each of Tony Mowbray’s three seasons in charge, each time their cup run ended by Premier League opposition.

They were winners of the competition in 2002 when it was branded as the Worthington Cup.
