Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings from the 1-1 draw with West Brom

Christian Walton 7

Quick off his line to deny Austin in the first half, as well as a fine save from Grosicki. The pick of the bunch was a second half stop to deny O’Shea’s swerving attempt, but did get a little fortunate his parry from Pereira’s shot wasn’t turned in by Krovinovic.

Ryan Nyambe 6

Was given a tough a test as we’ve seen any Championship winger give him by the speedy Grosicki. Was therefore a little mindful about getting forward with his usual gusto.

Darragh Lenihan 7

Won several aerial duels, including one in the West Brom penalty area that created a chance for Graham. Tried to play offside a little too often, but was furious that the flag didn’t go up for the West Brom goal. Involved in a tussle with Bilic late on.

Tosin Adarabioyo 7

Had the most touches of the ball and generally used it well. Was in the right place more often than not, clearing seven crosses, as well as making three interceptions.

Joe Rankin-Costello 7

Started off a little shakily against the lively Pereira as West Brom targeted him down that side. But gave as good as got all afternoon, and made a couple of important clearing headers.

Lewis Travis 7

Snarled his way through the match, embroiled in tangles with all three West Brom midfielders, with one thundering tackle on Sawyers deserving of a crowd to witness it. Could have used the ball a little quicker on occasion.

Bradley Johnson 6

Was unable to build on his impressive second half at Cardiff and looked a little weary at times. Guilty of giving the ball away at times.

Stewart Downing 6

Started off well, controlling the game, but was among those to be subbed at the right time, as he faded away. Did cause problems with his set play delivery though.

Dominic Samuel 6

Burst clear down the right in both halves, without managing an effort on goal, and didn’t make the most of his opportunity from the start.

Danny Graham 6

Didn’t have the opportunity to link the play as much as he did against Swansea, often finding himself drifting out to the flanks to cover space. Would have had a second goal in two games were it not for a flying Johnstone stop.

Adam Armstrong 6

Struggled to get in to the game, touching the ball just 22 times before being replaced. Was well shackled, with Rovers unable to isolate him one-on-one against O’Shea.

Subs

Elliott Bennett (for Nyambe, 60) 6

Was fresh legs against fresh legs as he faced up to Diangana and largely stood up to that threat well. Also had a hand in the goal.

Joe Rothwell (for Johnson, 60) 7

The perfect response to his manager’s demands for more productivity, scoring with his first touch and almost setting up a late winner for Holtby.

Sam Gallagher (for Samuel, 60) 7

Looked strong from minute one, driving down the right before cutting back for Rothwell to score. Could have had another assist for Davenport, and also wanted a penalty after going down under Townsend’s challenge.

Lewis Holtby (for Armstrong, 60) 7

Used from the right, a position we’ve more regularly seen him in, and was able to get more involved than the false nine role he’s been playing. His flick beat Johnstone, but cleared off the line by Bartley.

Jacob Davenport (for Downing, 75) 6

Had the big chance to win it, denied one-on-one by Johnstone. But put in another promising cameo, giving Rovers control and energy when they needed it most, and can’t be far off a starting spot.

Not used: Jayson Leutwiler, Hayden Carter, Charlie Mulgrew, John Buckley
