Tosin Adarabioyo is looking to put last season’s play-off heartbreak behind him by going one better with Rovers.

The defender was part of the West Bromwich Albion side who were beaten in the semi-finals by local rivals Aston Villa who went on to secure promotion at Wembley.

Adarabioyo insisted he was joining Rovers to have another tilt at promotion from the second tier this time around and has become a key part of Tony Mowbray’s side in his 28 appearances.

His availability for the remaining nine matches has been a boost to Mowbray whose side host seventh-placed Bristol City this afternoon.

Adarabioyo admits there is a sense of the unknown with matches to be played behind closed doors, but he’s hoping it can be a positive end to the campaign for Rovers.

“Last season with West Brom was heartbreaking for me, the way we lost in the play-offs, so I’ve got a new opportunity this season and I want to take it,” he said.

“The feeling at the end of last season was horrible, so I’m really pushing for better this time around.

“I want to get us into the play-off spots, to Wembley and then into the Premier League for next season.

“With nine games to go, it's a mini-season. We’re not sure what to expect but we’ll be pushing for it.”

Adarabioyo feared the season, and his time with Rovers, was going to be cut short but is now gearing up for a tilt at the top six in the final nine games.

The Manchester City loanee is signed up for the run-in and his partnership with captain Darragh Lenihan will be key to Rovers’ play-off chances.

The 22-year-old admits there were times during the three month suspension he felt the season would be curtailed, but admits he feels comfortable to return with the safety protocols, including twice-weekly Covid-19 testing, brought in.

“There were points where you did think that the season would get cancelled,” he said. “But we’re all here now, we’re all ready and we’re all looking forward to the games.

“We wanted to finish the season but we wanted to do it safely. We feel that’s been done so it’s time to look forward at what’s ahead of us.”
