Amari’i Bell is under contract at Rovers for another 12 months, the Lancashire Telegraph can reveal.

Bell was thought to be one of six senior players out of contract at the club this summer, but had a 12-month option in the deal that brought him from Fleetwood Town in January 2018 triggered following the club’s promotion from League One.

The 26-year-old, who has played 22 times this season, is now under contract to 2021, leaving Jayson Leutwiler, Richie Smallwood, Stewart Downing, Dominic Samuel and Danny Graham as players whose deals expire this month.

The Rovers hierarchy are set to meet to discuss the immediate, and long-term, futures of the out-of-contract five in the coming days, with the season set to run beyond their June 30 expiry date.

Stewart Downing has already revealed he is keen to stay on after a successful first season at Ewood, following his move from Middlesbrough last summer, while striker Danny Graham would relish extending him time at the club in to a sixth season.

Bell meanwhile faces a race against time to be fit for this Saturday’s Championship return, having sat out an intra-squad practice match yesterday with a knock.

Derrick Williams (calf) was also absent, leaving Tony Mowbray with a potential headache at left back ahead of the visit of Bristol City.

Joe Rankin-Costello filled in during last weekend's practice match with Liverpool, with Downing another option on the left side of defence.

Rovers will train again at Ewood on Thursday as they gear up for their first home match in almost four months against the Robins.

The players are re-acclimatising themselves with the playing surface, as well as the new protocols they will have to follow on matchdays, as well as playing behind closed doors.
