DWIGHT McNeil is hoping to have a big say in how high Burnley can finish this season.

The push to get to 40 points and the benchmark for Premier League safety remains the priority at Turf Moor.

But after Saturday night’s 1-1 draw with Spurs took them to 39, from 29 games, McNeil is looking to use the momentum of a seven-game unbeaten run to keep them in the hunt for Europe.

And on the back of a superb performance against Jose Mourinho’s men, in which he was instrumental in Chris Wood’s goal, the 20-year-old is keen to keep playing his part.

“I just want to play every game that’s available,” said the winger.

“At the start of the season that was my aim, to just try to be involved in every game, whether I was starting or on the bench.

“Fortunately I’ve been in the starting line-up.

“There are nine games left now and I want to play every single one of them.

“I think I’m doing well but there is always room for improvement, off the ball but on the ball as well. I’ve just got to keep focusing on my performance and helping the team performance.”

Having dominated the first half against Spurs at Turf Moor, McNeil admitted there was disappointment at being held to a draw.

Wood marked his return to the side after injury with a 13th minute opener only for Deli Alli to equalise from the spot five minutes into the second half, following Ben Mee’s foul on Erik Lamela.

“In the first half I thought we were really good – the best we’ve played all season,” said McNeil.

“We had that confidence from the previous six games unbeaten, taking it into this game.

“We started on the front foot and we deserved to go in at half-time leading.

“That penalty killed us a bit at the start of the second half but I thought we were unfortunate not to get all three points. I thought we deserved more than a point.

“But that’s seven games unbeaten now. It’s a great run that we’re on.”

Of the prospect of more European adventures, McNeil added: “Its not impossible at all. We just want to get to the 40 point mark. That’s the main aim and then we’ll look at things beyond that.”

A product of Burnley's academy, McNeil has also been making an impression on the international front, capped at England Under 20 and Under 21 level, and now knocking on the door of the senior squad.

"Of course, it would be a dream just to be a part of the national team," he said.

"But I don’t mind playing under-21s. Under-21s is still a good level, and we’re at Turf at the end of the month so it would be really good to play at home.

"All the lads are good lads, a lot of them play first team football as well, which is good and it’s a good experienced group that we have."
